Established in 1969 as Round Oak Leather, our evolution in mastering the art of leather working has been great.  Our leather artisans began their work in the late 1960's and 1970's developing their skills from making custom fit sandals using an outline of the foot to hand tooled and laced handbags.

From 1978 to 1983, we were in Nashville, Tennessee with backstage passes to the Grand Ole Opry.  We were making specialty stage costumes, flashy leather goods and guitar straps for the biggest stars of the times.

As well established leather artisans, in 1985 we began using age-old techniques and equipment to reproduce 19th century museum artifacts for the re-enacting community, movie, and television props industry in addition to contracting work for museums.

Under the name Dixie Leather Works, the reproductions by master leatherworker Phil Phillips are well known world wide. With over 40 major motion pictures under our belt supplying movie props, television, documentaries and theatre, the name continues to expand thru internet exposure. In 1999, we designed a new contemporary line of ladies handbags, business accessories, home decor and guitar straps; all one of a kind original designs.

Using time proven techniques, tools and machines, most of them now antiques, we continue to enjoy our artistic approach to a time tested craft.

Phillips maintains a home, studio and showroom in addition to his web-based business at his historic Lower Town residence known locally as the Dixie Rose.
