I was born in Miami, Florida. Looking back at my life I see myself as always being an artist in one form or another. I went to college later in life and graduated from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with a Degree in Visual Communications.
After working in advertising for more than twenty years I seriously began searching for a more personal means of self-expression. I had dreamed of becoming a professional sculptor so I began by taking a three-month sabbatical in Italy to study marble carving. Over the years I returned from time to time and eventually I moved to Italy for five years to continue my education. My initial sculptures were abstract studies in form, texture and movement, but my fascination with the human face and figure naturally led me to figurative sculpture. I find the unique diversity of the human face fascinating and intriguing. Italy was a perfect place to study classical figurative sculpture with some of the world’s finest artisans and professors. I relish experimenting and creating in many mediums and techniques. The colors, shapes, textures and movement of nature itself has always influenced my work.
From Italy I applied for and was accepted as an apprentice at The Johnson Atelier Technical Institute of Sculpture in NJ, I was then hired as a staff instructor in the Modeling & Enlarging department and as a technical assistant to Mr. Seward Johnson. My work included modeling of portraits, bas-reliefs,maquettes and life size figures. I also assisted with the construction of monumental sculptures, mold making, casting and restoration. As in Italy the Atelier was great community of artists working together.
I became part of the LowerTown Arts District in 2004 when I bought an old derelict house, restored it and built a new studio. I found what I was looking for, a house, a home and another community of artists. Since 2008 I’ve had the pleasure of teaching sculpture at the Paducah School of Art.
In both my abstract and figurative work I try to interpret emotion and feeling into a three-dimensional form, which can be a challenge, but the result can also be sensational. My works of art are in private and corporate collection in the United States and Europe
I'm an artist because; my need to create is to my soul, as breathing is to my life. A necessity!
